 Campus site visits

Adrian and Christine are coordinating UC campus site visits to meet with Special Collections & Archives, public services, and digital collections teams. Basically staff at each campus library that are either directly or indirectly interacting with our services, including OAC, Calisphere, Nuxeo (and/or Nuxeo-to-Merritt pipeline), and/or ASpace hosting.

We'll be in touch!

Harvesting updates

Tons of new collections!

UC: Davis, UCSF, non-UC: Television Academy Interviews, History San Jose, 80 new collections and additional items to existing collections from California Revealed (includes new UCSC items, and additional UCSF items)

Television Academy Interviews is our first Drupal harvest (via OAI-PMH)

UCSC says to check this out "Dome City" video: https://calisphere.org/item/ba850ebaeabc6167b2a77bcf3bc15274/ – building of a geodesic dome

Shareable Metadata workshops

Series of free workshops on crafting shareable metadata, with an eye towards sharing digital collections broadly with aggregators.

First workshop just took place this past Monday at the Center for Sacramento History. Participants from the California State Archives, California Revealed, Yolo County Archives, Center for Sacramento History, and California State Railroad Museum & Library.

More spots open in the remaining workshops! Schedule and registration info on the workshop wiki page.

CDL-hosted ASpace test instance

We have a test instance of ASpace up! To be used to test out plugins before going live with them.

We want to set up each UC library with an admin account, and you are welcome to create accounts for your staff

Currently testing out the a plugin to generate accessions identifiers (See plugin documentation)

One issue with the plugin is that the numbering counter is shared across all repositories in an instance – can be an issue if you have multiple repositories.

Other plugin requests? We can test it out through this instance.

CDL send out instructions to access ASpace test instances, including admin account setup.

Also to include caveats of the plugin based on current evaluation of it.

Calisphere updated to Python 3

Was on Python2.7 which is facing end of life soon. Updated to Python 3 and it's now up and running in production.

Python 2 will not be supported as of Jan 1, 2020

Also doing Amazon Linux migration for OAC. From Amazon Linux 1 to Amazon Linux 2.

Calisphere exhibitions update

We're rebooting the process! Currently working through a proposal with UC Irvine – a proposal that was submitted Dec 2017. Hope to publish the exhibition by the end of Summer, and also launch the process for all proposals then.

In the meantime, think about exhibition ideas! Curatorial process info available.

Feel free to get in touch! Happy to provide an orientation on the process.
