RCS Commands (via an example) for use on the Linux VMs.

Create RCS Repo

In the directory where you want to use RCS, do the following:

sudo mkdir RCS
sudo chown -R root:iam

In the directory above the directory where you want to use RCS, do the following:

sudo chown <current owner>:iam <name of directory>

Checkout

co -l httpd.conf
RCS/httpd.conf,v  -->  httpd.conf
revision 1.2 (locked)
done

Checkin

ci -u httpd.conf
RCS/httpd.conf,v  <--  httpd.conf
new revision: 1.3; previous revision: 1.2
enter log message, terminated with single '.' or end of file:
>> Set UseCanonicalName to On and ServerName to wiki-dev.library.ucsf.edu as per Shibd instructions.
>> .
done

Differences and Log Info

rcsdiff httpd.conf

In generic format:

rcsdiff -r<version1> -r<version2> <filename>
rcsdiff <filename>
rlog <filename>
