• Jerrold is wrapping up his term as co-chair with August's meeting, and Heather's contract as Open Access Analyst will be ending in September.
   Jennifer Chan from UCLA is willing to serve as a volunteer - yay and thanks! ...we still need one more, anyone else?

1. UCB  - We’re working on a few events for our publishing series workshops to correspond with open access week. The focus is on grad students and post-docs, and we’ll host sessions on “copyright and your dissertation,” “dissertation to first book,” and “managing and maximizing your scholarly impact.” Rachael Samberg hosted (with Mat from CDL) the webinar on UC and transformative OA agreements, focusing on the recent agreement with Cambridge (https://berkeley.box.com/s/998u0a36jfuujr1ylasjf6imv10c5yyz). Berkeley received a grant from NEH to host an institute for researchers, particularly in the humanities, on understanding and Building Legal Literacies for Text Data Mining. Will be run with a team of librarians, researchers, legal experts from around the country and will take place in June 2020 (https://update.lib.berkeley.edu/2019/08/14/team-awarded-grant-to-help-digital-humanities-scholars-navigate-legal-issues-of-text-data-mining/).
2. UCD - Heather's last meeting, it was a pleasure serving with you all! Thanks for being so awesome - go Schol Comm! - and good luck with everything   - Michael: Heather was so helpful in introducing me, setting me up and helping me to familiarize with the numerous groups and committees. Great transition! Thanks, Heather!
   Michael was at FSCI2019 at UCLA as well. Perfect opportunity to meet group members without the pixelation at Zoom . Got more up to speed in copyright and attended a class on changing the organization towards more open science. Michael also promoted the UC-Protocol.io agreement to directors at our Research Core Facilities Program and are in touch with the company to move it further.
3. UCI - Mitchell attended FSC2019 at UCLA. A wonderful week of R programming and alternate metric discussions.  The keynote speakers and Do-a-thon sessions were engaging and fruitful.  Local license to UCI Brain Center for Dimension asked Mitchell be also have an account to assist the researchers.  SciVal (Office of Research subscription) demonstration by Linda Galloway where Mitchell asked about API access.  A scheduled OpenRefine training program today had no one showed.  Planning for Open Access Week is in progress.
4. UCLA - Alternative Access workshops returning in Fall Quarter. OA Week will be packed w/ programming. Pre-prints club to launch during OA Week, with successive iterations throughout the academic year. Will be holding an OA Games day on Friday, 25th. Will share full lineup of all our events once program dates are finalized in Sept.

6. UCR -  Swati attended FSCI2019 at UCLA. Attended a morning session that addressed various implementation issues and one afternoon session that addressed the buy-in. These two programs complemented each other and had a good experience. Also attended the afternoon session on alternative metrics. Planning for the OA Week.

9. UCSD - Allegra is teaching a workshop on predatory publishing (which is why she is not attending this meeting) that we'll repeat and align for OA Week. Also in the works is a local outreach and education campaign that we intend to launch during OA Week. 
10. UCSF - The Library is hosting a reproducibility workshop series, along with the Graduate Division, beginning September 19: https://calendars.library.ucsf.edu/event/5671480. Since this runs through November, we won't be holding a separate event during Open Access Week (other than an info table).
11. CDL - Summer is the time of staff changes! Retirements included Perry Willett (who you may have interacted with if you do Merritt or ETD stuff) and Kirk Hastings (who was in charge of Elements for us). Kirk's replacement Mahjabeen is already on board, and the publication management system group will meet her this afternoon.
