CDL's Web Archiving Service (WAS) is partnering with Internet Archive's Archive-it service to provide web archiving tools and services for UC institutions.

WAS Decommission Timeline:

  • WAS Crawlers stop: Oct 31, 2015
  • WAS Public Site and Curator Sites closed: Dec 2015
  • Web Archiving at Scale: Overview of WAS Transition and process PDF.
  • Mapping of terms and metadata: WAS -  Archive-it PDF

Migration steps

NEW!  PPT slides and webinar recording that outlines the metadata migration process

BEFORE migration

  1. Weed your WAS collections
  2. Attend Archive-it informational webinar (optional)
  3. Attend Archive-it application training (required)

DURING migration

  1. Archive-It will set up your account, you assign an admin
  2. Create collections (project) in Archive-IT (NOTE: you do not have to migrate exactly on March 15 or June 15 but within 2-3 weeks after that date)
  3. Export seeds URLs and metadata from WAS to Archive-It
  4. Upload seeds and crawl frequency and upload metadata to Archive-It

START crawling/ Data migration

  1. Start crawling in Archive-it; stop crawling in WAS
  2. Archive-It will work with CDL staff to migrate your data

Training Dates

 UCs will sign in up in two groups; either March 15 or June 1. Prior to sign or soon thereafter, it is required that every curator attend Application Training

Application Training  (required!); Informational Webinar (optional)

  • Application training: An in-depth walk through of the technology and features of Archive-It; Sessions are held twice per month/75 minutes.
  • Informational Webinar: An overview of Archive-It and the Internet Archive, and see a demonstration of the service. These webinars are held twice month/50 minutes.
