The Instructional Design CKG supports Goal 6 of the UC Libraries Systemwide Goals and Priorities 2014-2018. This goal, “To build and leverage expertise,” acknowledges that the roles of librarians in higher education are changing and it is beneficial to the university libraries as well as individual librarians to collaborate on developing ideas and solutions that best serve the users of the UC libraries.  

Increasingly, instruction librarians are asked to support curricula through blended, flipped and online models. This need creates opportunities and challenges within libraries and in resource sharing across UC campuses. Instructional design librarians have expertise in information literacy instruction and instructional design and/or technologies. This CKG provides a forum for all UC librarians and staff members interested in instructional design and learning technology to facilitate discussion about how to address challenges related to new ways of delivering information literacy instruction grounded in instructional design. The group seeks to build on the ongoing and vibrant discussions of individual best practice through a focus on the role of intentionally designed frameworks, approaches and models for designing, delivering, evaluating, and continually improving library instruction.
