2. Announcements (Mitchell)

  • Shu Liu will be co-chair (2015), replacing Nancy Stimson as outgoing co-chair; Nancy was a wonderfully helpful co-chair and colleague, and we wish her the best.
  • Mitchell will remain co-chair until mid-2015, when he rotates off.
  • Welcome to new members from Berkeley: Susan Koskinen and Samantha Teplitzky, and  from San Diego: Mary Linn Bergstrom.
  • RSC Gold for Gold OA vouchers expire 31 December 2014; Jackie says to expect to hear about 2015 voucher program in March.  Several comments regarding ineffective initiative and less than useful window of opportunity; system-wide, very few authors make use of the program.

3. Fair Use Week planning

4.  Updates on UC Open Access Policy implementation (Mitchell)

  • Following documents provide ideas and background for other campuses; they are linked and available on UCLCKG Wiki .
  • Timeline for librarian communication with faculty at Irvine (Mitchell)
    • Presentations to UCI faculty on UC Publication Management System (Oct.-Dec. 2014)
      • Significant faculty interest in the UCPMS being able to interact with current promotion/tenure system; there are areas of concern with the import and export of data, but they are working toward that end.
      • Currently limited to senate faculty; working on system to allow support staff access, in order to support faculty.
      • Plan to officially launch January 2015; FAQ for UC Publications Management System helpful with common questions and concerns.
    • Sample email to faculty through UC PMS
    • Work plan for librarian outreach to follow up with faculty
    • Concern raised by Christy regarding faculty unease with posting final manuscript, rather than final published version, for all to see for all time in eScholarship.  Specifically, music faculty and a bioinformatics faculty member were unhappy enough with the manuscript appearance that it is a barrier to submission.  Discussion included swapping versions and changing links to article of record, once publisher time restrictions are met.  Katie provided insight to the UC OA Policy and how SHERPA RoMEO could provide and understanding of what version of papers publishers might allow for submission to eScholarship.
